On the Belgian coast, the beach can get busy on sunny days, with swimmers and watersports enthusiasts filling the shoreline. Behind the scenes, a dedicated rescue service ensures everyone stays safe. During a recent conversation, we spoke with Korneel, head of the beach rescue service in Koksijde, about his team’s work and their experience with Interactor boats.
Here’s what he had to say:
Who are you and what is your role? “My name is Korneel, and I am the head of the beach rescue service in Koksijde. I am responsible for the entire rescue operation in Koksijde.”
Which Interactor models do you currently use? “For the past two years, we have been using the smaller type, the 420, as a patrol boat. We are very satisfied with it, especially on nice days when we need to monitor our beach visitors.
In addition, we also use a larger boat, the 485 with console. It is deployed during incidents involving people doing watersports or small recreational vessels."
How would you describe Interactor in three words? “The first word that comes to mind is the agility of the boats. Personally, I think that for people with experience, the boat handles perfectly and is very maneuverable, even in heavier seas.
The second point is that the boat is very lightweight. That is essential for us because our rescue service has to move the boats manually across the beach. It makes launching the boat from the shore much easier.
A third point, and a major advantage for us, is that Interactor allows us to customize the boat according to our needs. For example, if we need a small patrol boat, we can have it fully tailored to the work we intend to do. That flexibility is a big benefit for us.”
Korneel’s experience highlights how Interactor boats support demanding coastal rescue operations. From daily patrols to critical interventions, having reliable, agile, and customizable equipment makes all the difference when safety is on the line.
